Who doesn't like
candy chocolate bananas?! Surely kids do. :) You know, this is one of those
cakes that everyone likes and you have no clue how could it disappear so
quickly. First time I made it, it
was a huge success. Next time I started
wondering if this recipe should be doubled or tripled.
Yup, even those who
claimed that, you know, chocolate bananas are not really something they prefer
surprised me with asking for one more slice!
Ingredients:
200 ml / 0.8 cup of heavy cream
200 ml / 0.8 cup of heavy cream
200
ml / 1.6 cup of sour cream
200
gr / 1.5 cup of powdered sugar
200
gr / 1.5 cup of biscuits (I use Petit Beure)
25
candy chocolate bananas
100
gr /0.8 cup of powdered whipp cream
Milk
for preparing the cream
*optional
1 dl / 0.4 cup of milk
5 mandarines
+ mandarines and chocolate bananas for decorating
With adding or
omitting the milk you decide how creamy do you want it to be. If you add the
milk it will be super creamy but the slice won't stand firmly on the plate. So,
if you make this for a child's birthday party, omit the milk. On the other
hand, if you like creamy cakes and you are making this for your family, so you
don't actually mind how will it sit on the plate, go with the milky version!
You will love it!
Step by step preparation:
Cut
the candy chocoalte bananas in 1 cm (0.4 in) wide circles.
Break
the biscuits in smaller chunks, aproximatelly 2x2 cm (0.8x0.8 in).
Whipp
up the heavy cream. Be sure that the cream is cold before you start whipping
it.
Add
to the cream sour cream and powdered sugar. Mix it well with a spatula or a
spoon.
- Don't use a mixer for mixing the sour cream, it will turn too runny and you surely don't want that!
Add chocolate banana
pieces to the cream and stir it in.
Add the biscuit
chunks to the cream. Combine everything.
Prepare the
casserole dish. (30x20 cm - 11.8x7.8 in)
Cover it with
stretch foil.
Pour in the prepared
cake mixture. Spread and even everything with a spoon.
Put the cake in the
fridge for at least 2h.
It will get firmer
and the biscuits will soften and soak in the cream.
Once you take out
the cake from the fridge, sprinkle it with powdered sugar. This will prevent
sticking it to the serving tray, especially if you added milk to the cake
mixture.
Cover the casserole
dish with a serving tray and carefully flip it over. Remove the stretch foil.
At this point you
can choose weather you want the cake fruity or not.
Peel the mandarins
and divide them into slices. Cut each slice in small pieces.
Spread the mandarins
evenly on top of whole cake.
Whip up the whipping
powder with milk or water (as you like it more). I like to gradually add the
milk and actually determine how thick
the cream will be.
Make the cream a
little bit less thick then you would usually. This will help to easily cover
the mandarins without moving them all over the cake.
